What is a Bot

A bot is software that is designed to automate the kinds of tasks you would usually do on your own, like making a dinner reservation, adding an appointment to your calendar or fetching and displaying information.  A bot, is a software application that runs automated tasks (scripts) over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone. The largest use of bots is in web spidering , in which an automated script fetches, analyzes and files information from web servers at many times the speed of a human. More than half of all web traffic is made up of bots. Bots like NRA Tally use twitter and release tweets using specific codes and language. NRA Tally tweets using the NRA’s generic statements a list of firearms and cities to make its tweets. Bots can be very versatile in what they do. Some can be used on twitter to spam users. One called as Pentametron, and searches out tweets that are in Iambic Pentameter. Bots have a lot of good purposes online but at times bots can also be seen as bad. People see bots as bad when they are used as propaganda for the election.
